Understanding UV Exposure Risks
Research has consistently shown that prolonged exposure to ultraviolet (UV) radiation could potentially lead to health issues. However, the anti-sunbed lobby often overlooks the fact that moderate sun exposure can also provide essential benefits, such as vitamin D synthesis, which is crucial for overall health.

Here are 7 myths about sunbed usage busted!
MYTH 1: Sunbeds cause Melanoma
BUSTED! There is NO evidence that moderate use of a commercial sunbed will increase your risk of melanoma. Studies often quoted to suggest there is a link have been carefully and scientifically reviewed and found to have significant flaws, skewing the results.
MYTH 2: Sunbeds emit UV levels 10-15 times higher than the Mediterranean sun
BUSTED! Sunbeds are required under European law to have a UV output the same as the Mediterranean sun. (Read more about 0.3 tanning here.)
MYTH 3: There's no such thing as a safe tan
BUSTED! Tanning is the body's natural reaction to gradual, moderate UV exposure. Burning is an uncontrolled, over-exposure to UV and must be avoided.
MYTH 4: Sunbeds are not a safe alternative to sunbathing
BUSTED! Under professional supervision, sunbeds provide a specific dose of UV in a controlled environment, avoiding the risk of burning. UV levels from the sun will vary significantly according to geographical location, time of year and time of day.
MYTH 5: Anyone can use a sunbed
BUSTED! Not everyone can use a sunbed or sunbathe - you need to check your skin type (download our helpful skin type guide here) and for other contra-indications such as medication.
MYTH 6: There's no benefits to using a sunbed
BUSTED! UV light is the most natural source of Vitamin D - essential for good health. And of course people look and feel better with a tan!
MYTH 7: Using a sunbed before a holiday won't help with preventing sunburn
BUSTED! A few sessions on a sunbed before you jet off to a hot destination is a great way to help prepare your skin for the intensity of the summer sun. It's still important to ensure you wear appropriate sun protection in the sun and above all avoid burning.
